The story was another disappointment, I didn't give a rat ass for the villain and couldn't name a single side character to save my life. The combat sections were heavily reduced, and I mean they practically vanished for the majority of the duration, wich wouldn't be bad in a vacumn but it feels jarring to happen in the third game of a new trilogy, like watching Fellowship of the Ring after Fast and Furious 5 and 6. Unfortunately that's about it for the good stuff. Exploration and puzzles took the main spot now and they're at their peak, some of them took me quite a while to solve. Oh boy, Shadow was a big fat disappointment. The audio logs are even better than before and I found myself searching every nook and cranny looking for them, wich doesn't happen all too often. The story was quite engaging if a bit cliché and characters are interesting for the most part. The combat is tighter than ever and Lara is practically Rambo inside the body of a skinny british woman. The tombs received a lot more attention fortunately, they're more plentiful and well thought out. Resource gathering is a mere setback in-between missions, where you now gotta kill some deers here and there to upgrade your weapons. Rise attempts to shift into a more survival focused gameplay but it just doesn't commit enought to quite reach it. What surprised me tho were the audio and text logs scaretted around the map, they provided some nice worldbuilding and were surprinsingly well written too. The story is decent, nothing to write home about but I like me some wacky adventure stories in this style so I'm a bit biased. But the combat is lots of fun at least, I'd recommend putting on hard as it makes the experience a lot more satisfying and intense. There's something to be said about tombs being a side activity in a game called Tomb Raider, and most of them last 5 minutes tops. The first entry in the reboot changed the usual formula and made combat a much more prominent element, I'd go as far as to say it became the main element, while exploration took a backseat. Yay for reboots who share the same name as the original. I'll try to keep it brief since I'll be covering three games. Just recently I finished binging the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy and I wanted to share my thoughts. It might have a hard time competing with the best game in the Tomb Raider series, though, which set expectations high for future remakes.A gaming sub free from the hype and over saturation of current releases, catering to gamers who wait at least 12 months after release to play a game. The upcoming title will seemingly tie into the cherished original saga, and, at minimum, should contain some stunning visuals as players accompany Lara Croft on yet another action-filled, archeological adventure. It's hard enough to keep track of the confusing Tomb Raider storyline, much less choose which game is best, considering the stark twenty-two-year gap between the first and last releases.Continuing with its second series of reboots, Crystal Dynamics announced in 2022 that development is underway for a new Tomb Raider game, which uses Unreal Engine 5. Including remakes and reboots, there are twelve games in the main series (and that's not counting the many spin-offs, like mobile games). Since its first release in 1996, the classic Tomb Raider series has received a dizzying amount of titles to its name, and it can be overwhelming trying to compare them all at once.
